Hovis ~ 122 seconds of brilliance

This ad is brilliant. Hovis created this 122 second ad that runs from a bakers in 1886 all the way up to 2008.

The boy’s travels take him down Victorian streets, past a Suffragette protest, and alongside soldiers heading off to the First World War. He gets a glimpse of the swinging 60s, sees the unrest of the mid-80s, and the fireworks to herald the Millennium.

Miss. Brahms has terminal cancer

Wendy Richard of ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Are You Being Served‘ fame has told the world that she is dying of cancer.

She as written her will, planned her funeral and is planning to marry her long term boy friend.

I’m truly sorry to hear of her illness. She was a great actress and I’ve had many a laugh from watching ‘Are You Being Served’.

Thanks for the laughs Wendy. My thoughts are with you.

Got this from Laura’s blog. I’m posting it here in remembrance of my mother who died of cancer 5 years ago.

Rest In Peace Mother.

Paul Newman – revisited

A fitting tribute I think ……..

Paul Newman R.I.P.

Paul Newman, the actor, died on Friday at the age of 83. He had been suffering from cancer.

Newman was a legend in his own time. A cool, suave and sophisticated man he was nominated for the Academy Awards 10 times.

He won an Oscar in 19878 for ‘The Colour of Money’. He also won two honourary Oscars.

Newman founded a food company ‘Newman’s Own’ from which he donated all his profits and royalties (well in excess of US$220 million) to charity.

What an amazing man.

Rest In Peace Paul. And thanks for the entertainment.

Boyd Coddington R.I.P.

Boyd Coddington the icon of the hotrod industry died on the 27th of February 2008 at the age of 63. Boyd created custom hotrods and classic one off vehicles. Though I may have not agreed with the fast deadline approach to his car building I have to admire what he achieved in his life. He created with his hands and he entertained with his ‘American Hotrod’ shows.

Rest in Peace Boyd …. your legacy is indeed one that will stand the test of time.

Here’s to you Ronnie Drew!

Ronnie Drew died today after a long battle with cancer.

Rest In Peace Ronnie.

Shaft and Chef lose a great man

Isaac Hayes, the singer, songwriter and musician whose ‘Theme From Shaft’ won Academy and Grammy awards, has died at the age of 65.

Hayes became the voice of Chef, the school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show ‘South Park’ in 1997.

Rest In Peace Isaac.

Adrian Sudbury – a man of amazing courage

Adrian Sudbury - Baldy's Blog

I’ve been following Adrian’s blog for some time as he charted his battle with two forms of leukaemia. He has charted the highs and lows of his battle with cancer on his blog.

Adrian Sudbury has been a reporter for both the Huddersfield Express and Chronicle Series and the Huddersfield Examiner. In November 2006 the 25-year-old was promoted to digital journalist, effectively editing the new-look Examiner website. Just two days into his new role he became seriously ill and called in sick. A week later he drove himself to A&E and was eventually diagnosed with leukaemia. It was then identified that he actually has two distinct types of the disease running at the same time. According to the medical literature he is the only person in the world to have this condition. As such, it has not been possible to offer Adrian a prognosis. Here he shares his experiences of the disease and his treatment.

He has also run a very successful campaign where he wants to get a 40 minute talk to all second year sixth form students about why it’s important to think about donating blood, bone marrow and organs.

I write about Adrian because he has posted that he is moving into the closing stages of his life and that he has literally a weeks fews at most to live.

Read his latest post and leave a comment of support if you can.
