Irish Blog Awards 2009

The Irish Blog Awards are on this coming weekend in Cork (de real capital of oirland boye).

Some of my frequent complainers visitors have been shortlisted.

(God help us from enlarged egos but that’s the risk of having the awards.)

I see a vintage member of my harem (Grannymar) has been shortlisted in the Best Personal Blog category.

So how should I be using it?

Paddy’s Place ~ clarification for visitors/commentators!

I have updated my ‘About’ page.

It has an addendum:

Addendum:

Just to clarify the purpose of my blog – this is the place where I (Paddy) write about the things that affect me in my life – be they personal or professional (i.e. related to my job).

They are my own views and my own thoughts. They do not reflect any third party view …. they are 100% my own and they are written (in my own personal style) with that in mind.

As the owner, landlord and only tenant in Paddy’s Place (PaddyBloggit.com) I do it my way and it’s either my way or no way here.

Comments are welcome. Debate is always encouraged. Downright criticism isn’t and it will be consigned to the bin without a second thought.

Any comment questioning my professionalism as a teacher or as a principal will be deleted automatically.

In reading and commenting here you accept that I am writing as an individual. You also accept that I do not represent any particular educational institution/school/policy on my blog.

I reserve the right to edit, modify, or delete as I see fit here.

If you’re happy with the above – welcome, sit, relax, stay awhile and participate.

If you’re not happy with the above – I’m sorry to see you go, I thank you for visiting and I wish you well on your journey through life.

I think it’s self explanatory.

Paddy does Twitter!

Thought it was time I checked this twitter gizmo out … great stuff.

I must add a link on my site but until then you’ll find me here:

Paddy the Twitter man!

Blogroll restored

I’ve restored my blogroll.

If you’re not on it, it’s either I’ve forgotten to put you on or you haven’t asked me/given me permission to add you.

You know where I am!

I need your help

I am still trying to sort out security here and have limited access to certain isps. There’s a chance that I might be blocking some of my visitors.

I’d be grateful if you would comment to this post and tell me what your ip is (you can email it to me if you don’t want to put it into a comment).

My email address is paddy bloggit [at} gmail . com (No spaces and replace the [at] with @

You can check your ip here:

What’s my IP address?

Renew, refresh and replensish!

I cleared my hosting and Paddy Bloggit now has a clean install of WordPress.

Things may be shaky here for the next day or so as I’m experimenting with plugins and doing my best to keep my blog as secure as possible. If you spot anything not working etc. please let me know.

My blogroll has defaulted back to the original WordPress installation links but I will customise it again shortly.

If you’d like to have your blog added to my list just let me know. You can reach me through my about page.

New Year = Clean Sweep!

I’ve been interested in website design/coding for the last few years. Over that time I’ve signed up for multiple hosting and registered a number of domain names. All this has been with a view to developing some sites (recreationally) with a hope of having them pay for themselves financially over time.

The ‘hacking’ incident has made me realise that it’s time to off load some domains and some sites.

New year means consolidation time.

With a second house purchase it’s also time to curtail some of my spending in pursuit of my ‘coding’ hobby.

My Paddy Bloggit site may be down over the next few days as I back up my database and generally try to close up any hacker loop holes that I can find.

I have some image hosting sites on the same server as my Paddy Bloggit blog. I’m going to move them in order to keep this blog as safe as possible.

Don’t go away …  I’ll be back … bigger and better!

Hacker issues still unresolved

I thought I had sorted the hacker issues but I’m still dogged with rogue coding.

I have a site that allows users to zip their files online and I updated the footer this evening only to find an iframe (internal frame) showing up on the main page.

The oddest thing is that it only show up on Internet Explorer and not on Firefox.

NippyZip

The site in question is NippyZip. It’s a site I have for awhile and it gets used daily. Have a look and see if you can spot the iframe on the right hand side of the main page (IE only).

Any techie out there have any idea of what’s happening?

I have checked the coding but I can’t find anything amiss.

I’m giving my laptop a complete spyware scan in the hope that the fault is with my machine.

Paddy’s place has been hit

Happy New Year!

First things first ~  Happy New Year to you all!

My new year here has gotten off to a rocky start because this site was hit by a hacker and google closed down access to me as a result (they did in Firefox but not in IE7).

I went through the coding and deleted what I thought was dodgy. I submitted my site to google for review and they turned off the alarm bells.

I don’t know how the hacker got in to my coding/site. I’m looking for help and advice as I type so I’m hopeful of getting things sorted here. I have to find out how he got in so that I can try to ensure he doesn’t get in again.

I’m hoping that 2009 will be a better year for this site. I am considering an add on photo gallery to this site or else setting up a totally independent photo display site. I’m also thinking of starting a site dedicated to my new house purchase charting it’s purchase, use, transformation, etc.

By the way …. the house sale price comes with its own boat! Now where did I put my life jacket?
